Three Yellowstone Favorites Returning for Spinoff Following Pay Agreement

In the latest update from the “What I’m Hearing” newsletter at Puck, it’s reported that Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes are finalizing their deals to reprise their respective roles as Rip Wheeler, Beth Dutton, and Kayce Dutton. However, the participation of Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer remains uncertain, depending on their approval of the show’s creative direction.

Despite the Yellowstone spinoff being announced over a year ago, little is known about the series. A previous update from November mentioned that the project might be called “2024.” This would align with the naming convention of other Yellowstone spinoffs like “1923” and “1883,” but the title may also hinge on the release date.

A significant factor delaying the spinoff’s development is the outcome of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2. The final episodes are scheduled to be filmed throughout the summer, with a premiere date set for November 10, 2024. It remains unclear how creator Taylor Sheridan intends to conclude Yellowstone after its considerable impact on television. For example, it is uncertain whether Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, might be killed off.

One clear objective of the spinoff is to retain the elements that have resonated with audiences. Grimes, Hauser, and Reilly have been with the franchise since its inception, and the characters of Beth and Rip have become a fan-favorite couple. If this latest update holds true, it suggests that the trio may survive the potentially chaotic and eventful Yellowstone finale.

The finale of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 1 features significant flashbacks. A young Rip accidentally kills a cowboy who had disrespected a young Beth. Rip, with the help of Lloyd, disposes of the body at the Wyoming border, where the Duttons typically get rid of their enemies. This act endears Rip to a young John Dutton and brings him closer to the family. In the present, however, things are not going smoothly for the trio, especially Beth.

In the present day, John inquires if Kayce will run the ranch while Rip is in Texas. This contrasts with Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), John’s adopted son, who aims to derail his father’s political career. Jamie calls for John’s impeachment, accusing him of wasting billions of dollars and jobs.

Beth, furious at Jamie’s scheming, confronts him and hits him with a rock after a phone call with Rip. She plans to expose him with compromising photos, but Jamie is one step ahead. He reveals incriminating photos that could expose where all the bodies are buried and cause serious damage to the Dutton name.Source: Puck
