‘S.W.A.T.’ Season 8: What to Expect with One Cast Member Returning and Another Leaving
Despite initial reports suggesting that the show would end with Season 7, CBS has decided to renew S.W.A.T. for an eighth season.
Since its debut in 2017, the show has followed a locally born and bred S.W.A.T. sergeant and his team of highly-trained men and women as they tackle crime in Los Angeles.
This marks the second time S.W.A.T. has been brought back after cancellation. The initial decision to cancel the show was due to licensing fee disputes. After failing to reach an agreement in 2023, Sony and CBS canceled the show, only to later negotiate a deal for a final season with a reduced episode count.
“At CBS, we thrive on dramatic twists, especially when it leads to an eighth season of S.W.A.T.,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The show continues to resonate with viewers, thanks to our talented cast led by Shemar Moore, and our exceptional writers and producers who keep the series relevant and action-packed. We’re thrilled to renew it once again and incredibly grateful to our partners at Sony, CBS Studios, and Shemar for working closely with us to make this happen.”
“It’s an honor to deliver more S.W.A.T. stories to our incredible fans. This season eight renewal is a testament to our showrunner Andy Dettmann, Shemar Moore, our talented cast, and our dedicated crew who continue to produce content that resonates with so many,” said executive producer and co-showrunner Shawn Ryan. “We’re thankful to CBS, Sony Pictures Television, and CBS Studios for this opportunity.”
