Cammed 454 Big Block 1969 Chevy Malibu SS Exhaust Cutouts Leaving Muscle Car Show
When you think of your ideal American Muscle machine, I don’t think that there are too many people out there who think of a nice and quiet ride that will manage to lay low and sneak right past everybody’s attention as you enter the local car show. The whole point of having a car like that is not only so that you can go fast, but also having a nice little exhaust note when you stomp on that go pedal to go alongside that imposing appearance that this kind of car brings to the table.
Some of these machines might have been a little quiet when they originally rolled off of the assembly line but thanks to some key modification, they sound and probably perform much, much better than they originally did and this Chevrolet Chevelle is certainly no exception.
Instead of the somewhat tame machine that’s good for cruising the streets occasionally with the windows down, this old school beast is a big block screamer in the streets, demanding attention just by idling. We would imagine that this thing has to be a blast to lay into the throttle of and listen in as all of those cubic inches scream in a massive American bellow.
‘Cammed’ refers to the camshaft in an internal combustion engine. The camshaft is a shaft with lobes that control the opening and closing of the engine’s valves. A “cammed” engine typically means the camshaft has been modified, usually with larger or differently shaped lobes, to increase the engine’s performance. This modification can lead to increased horsepower and torque, as well as a distinctive engine sound. However, it can also affect the engine’s overall drivability, idling and fuel economy.
Check out the video below that shows off the well polished muscle machine loping away in a display where they it be sitting still at a red light. Filmed with a Panasonic GH5 camera. Nothing like the sound of a big cam V8 with long tube headers and an open exhaust. Awesome big Cam idle sound.
