He reflects on Voight’s tendency to protect those around him, even if it means pushing people away. “There are some people that can give but they can’t receive,” Beghe explains, likening Voight’s emotional state to rush hour traffic—some lanes are clear while others are completely jammed. Voight has experienced love before, and now, as he navigates his feelings for Chapman, he’s faced with the challenge of opening up.

Chapman makes her feelings known, telling Voight she cares about him and will make her own choices regardless of his input. Voight’s response to this revelation remains uncertain, but Beghe hints that Voight is not one to shy away from confronting his emotions. “He’ll be honest as he can with himself and with her,” he says, indicating that their dynamic is far from straightforward.

As the episode concludes, Chapman departs for Denver on a federal case, leaving Voight without his usual confidante. Meanwhile, a new deputy chief, Reid, played by Shawn Hatosy, enters the picture, adding another layer of complexity to Voight’s life. Though Reid hasn’t caused any issues yet, Voight’s instincts tell him to be cautious.
