He wanted someone else and he got her.” This unjust dismissal was only the beginning; the producer went further by tarnishing Esposito’s reputation in the industry. “Anybody that called and said, ‘Hey, I want to hire her,’ he responded, ‘Don’t hire her,'” she recounted. False accusations of drug addiction were spread, despite Esposito clarifying that, “Never happened. I don’t do dr*gs. Never did.”

The repercussions were severe as the producer coerced her agency into severing ties, leaving Esposito without representation for an agonizing two and a half years. “I casually moved to the desk of the assistant and then casually was pushed out the door, and I couldn’t get any work,” she lamented. This dark period, however, became a catalyst for Esposito’s resilience and determination.

Against the odds, Esposito channeled her frustration and creative energy into a passion project that marked her directorial debut. The film, titled Fresh Kills, is a testament to her perseverance and artistic vision. “I know for a fact that if that didn’t happen with that producer and my road had been easier, I would have never written and directed what I just did,” she affirmed. Fresh Kills, released on June 14, showcases Esposito’s multifaceted talent as she not only stars in but also produces and directs the film.

While discussing the film’s significance, Esposito emphasized its personal resonance, describing it as a tribute to her younger self who endured unjust setbacks. “Fresh Kills, the film was for the 26-year-old kid who got slaughtered,” she remarked.
