Nathan Fillion Shares a Heartfelt Reaction to ‘The Rookie’s’ Season 7 Return
“The Rookie,” ABC’s latest drama, has received a positive update for the 2024 TV schedule, hot on the heels of renewals for “9-1-1” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” The police drama, led by Nathan Fillion, has been officially renewed for a seventh season. While the ensemble cast quickly celebrated the announcement, Fillion took a little longer to respond, eventually sharing a heartfelt message.
Despite setbacks from the WGA writers’ strike and the cancellation of the spin-off “The Rookie: Feds” — which Fillion described as “sobering” — the future of “The Rookie” on ABC remains secure. Fillion expressed his thoughts on the renewal for Season 7 on Instagram:
It’s a good feeling to have work. It’s even better to be able to take pride in that work. If you are among those who are enjoying The Rookie, we owe you our thanks. Thank you, for having excellent taste in entertainment. Season 7, here we come. (And let’s not forget ABC! Thanks for being so supportive!
Nathan Fillion, known for his enduring roles in TV hits like “Castle” (eight seasons) and “The Rookie” (currently six seasons), is no stranger to the highs and lows of television careers, having experienced an early cancellation with “Firefly.” He recently took the time to express his gratitude not only to the loyal viewers who have tuned into over 100 episodes of “The Rookie” but also to the team at ABC for their steadfast support.
ABC has every reason to continue backing “The Rookie.” According to Variety, the Live+35 ratings data—totals that include 35 days of delayed viewing—reveal that the Season 6 premiere garnered a remarkable 11.9 million viewers across all platforms, the highest since 2018. Additionally, the premiere scored a 2.9 rating in the key 18-49 age demographic after the 35-day period.
