NCIS: Tony and Ziva Spin-Off: What Fans Can Expect

The stars behind the beloved NCIS characters Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David have finally shared insights into their much-anticipated spin-off, NCIS: Tony and Ziva. However, the timeline may not be what fans expected.

As CBS unveils NCIS Season 22 along with the prequel series NCIS Origins, which explores the early days of Leroy Gibbs (portrayed by Austin Stowell), excitement is building for more backstory with the new drama centered on Tony and Ziva. Set to air on Paramount+, NCIS: Tony and Ziva will follow the duo as Tony’s security firm in Paris faces significant threats.

Interestingly, while the action unfolds in the present, the narrative will begin from a pivotal moment in the characters’ history: Ziva’s faked death and Tony’s subsequent move to Paris with their daughter Tali, events that took place over a decade ago. This detail emerged during panel discussions at MIPCOM, where Cote de Pablo, who plays Ziva, stated, “We haven’t seen these characters since 2013, and I think the fans have always wanted to see what happened between them. In our first season, they’re going to get a fix of what has happened.”

By revisiting events from more than ten years ago, NCIS: Tony and Ziva aims to unravel the mystery surrounding the characters’ lives since their departures from the original series. Ziva made a dramatic return years later to assist Gibbs with a case but soon returned to her life in Paris with Tony and Tali.

De Pablo elaborated on the decision to incorporate a time leap, explaining, “This removes the pressure to check out the main show to fully understand what’s going on and how Tony and Ziva’s new dilemma connects to their past.”

The series promises to explore these earlier events before launching viewers into the present, where the former agents find themselves in yet another predicament, with the identity of their pursuer remaining a mystery.

While specific premiere details are still under wraps, it’s confirmed that the spin-off will consist of ten episodes, moving away from its traditional CBS platform to Paramount+. Fans eagerly await the return of Tony and Ziva, ready to dive back into their intriguing story.
